Piscataway, ST (Sports Network) - JaKarr Sampson scored 21 points to lead the
St. John's Red Storm to a 72-60 win over the Rutgers Scarlet Knights in a Big
East conference bout at the RAC.
D'Angelo Harrison added 20 points and Sir'Dominic Pointer contributed 13
points, nine rebounds, seven assists and six steals for St. John's (12-7, 4-3
Big East) which has won three straight.
Mack Myles netted 17 points, Mike Poole had 11 off the bench and Wally Judge
tallied 10 for Rutgers (12-6, 3-4) which has lost three of its last four.
Despite shooting just 35.5 percent in the first half, St. John's had a slim
29-28 edge at the break thanks to a 6-2 advantage on points from the
free-throw line.
In the second half the Red Storm heated up to 59.1 percent shooting and used a
15-7 edge from the free-throw line to pull away for the win.
Rutgers shot just 36.5 percent in the game overall. The teams were fairly even
on the boards with Rutgers owning a slim 41-40 edge.
