Jersey City, NJ (Sports Network) - Desmond Wade registered a double-double
with 12 points and 10 rebounds as the Fairfield Stags claimed a 61-54 win over
the Saint Peter's Peacocks in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play at the
Yanitelli Center.
Wade also accounted for six of the 10 assists logged by the Stags (12-10, 4-6
MAAC) as they picked up their second win in as many games. Derek Needham tied
for the game high with 19 points, while Amadou Sidibe and Maurice Barrow both
tallied 10 points and came up with nine and eight rebounds, respectively.
The Peacocks (6-14, 1-9) were led by Yvon Raymond with 19 points, adding
seven rebounds and three assists before fouling out. Darius Conley and Blaise
Ffrench both tallied eight points, the former clearing 10 rebounds as the team
bowed for the eighth straight game.
Fairfield didn't make a single trip to the free-throw line in the first half
and shot only 2-of-13 beyond the arc, yet the Stags were the ones with the
28-24 lead at the break. The hosts didn't take a single shot from 3-point
range over the first 20 minutes of action.
In the second half the visitors made a total of only nine field goals, but
made up for it with 12-of-15 shooting at the charity stripe in order to
capture the seven-point win.
Fairfield celebrated the win despite shooting only 5-of-23 beyond the arc on
the afternoon.
