Norfolk, VA (Sports Network) - Jonathan Arledge scored a career-high 21 points
and pulled down seven rebounds as the George Mason Patriots took down the Old
Dominion Monarchs, 85-74, in Colonial Athletic Association action at the Ted
Constant Convocation Center.
Patrick Holloway accounted for 13 points off the bench for the Patriots (14-9,
7-4 CAA), followed by Corey Edwards with 11 points and five assists. Erik
Copes and Bryon Allen both posted 10 points, the latter handing out eight
assists, while Sherrod Wright finished with nine points and nine rebounds, but
shot just 2-of-10 from the floor as the team won for the second time in as
many games.
The Monarchs (2-20, 0-10) were paced by DeShawn Painter with 14 points,
Richard Ross 13 and five blocked shots, while Aaron Bacote delivered 12 points
and six assists as the team had its losing streak extended to 10 games.
George Mason made good on an impressive 58.6 percent from the floor in the
first half, including 4-of-5 behind the 3-point line, as the team moved out to
a 43-31 lead at the break.
ODU closed the gap in the second half by connecting on 50 percent from the
field, but the visitors were up to the challenge as they converted 19-of-21 at
the free-throw line in the period to secure the double-digit win.
The Patriots overcame 17 turnovers by shooting 24-of-27 at the charity stripe
and leading the way on the glass, 39-26.
