Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Armani Cotton scored 15 points, leading
four players in double figures, as the Yale Bulldogs registered a 68-59 win
over the Penn Quakers in Ivy League play at The Palestra.
Matt Townsend accounted for 12 points for the Bulldogs (8-14, 2-3 Ivy),
followed by Justin Sears and Javier Duren with 11 points apiece, the duo
combining for 15 rebounds as well, helping the squad to snap a two-game slide.
The Quakers (4-17, 1-3), losers of four of the last five, were led by Henry
Brooks who tallied 12 points before fouling out. Tony Hicks chipped in 11
points before he too picked up his fifth personal foul, while Dau Jok
connected on 3-of-5 shots behind the 3-point line as he finished with 10
points off the bench.
Yale shot a mere 28.6 percent from the floor in the first half, compared to
45.5 percent for the hosts, but the Bulldogs still only trailed by just three
points at the break, 32-29.
In the second half the visitors feasted at the free-throw line (15-of-21) in
order to move in front and grab the nine-point win.
Yale turned the ball over 18 times on the night, but managed to overcome those
miscues by holding a 45-34 rebounding edge and outscoring Penn at the charity
stripe, 24-12.
