Dayton, OH (Sports Network) - Kevin Van Wijk scored 20 points and pulled down
nine rebounds as the Valparaiso Crusaders posted a 68-61 win over the Wright
State Raiders in Horizon League action at the Nutter Center.
Also scoring in double figures for the Crusaders (20-6, 10-2 HL), as they won
their fourth straight game and the 10th in the last 11 outings, were Matt
Kenney and Ryan Broekhoff with 15 and 10 points, respectively.
The Raiders (17-9, 8-5) were paced by AJ Pacher who tallied a game-high 23
points in just 24 minutes off the bench. Miles Dixon contributed 13 points in
a reserve role as well as the team had a three-game win streak come to an end.
Valpo scored the first points of the night and never looked back, leading by
as many as 13 points in the opening half before claiming a 34-28 advantage at
the break. The Crusaders converted 48.1 percent from the field in the frame.
In the second half the visitors moved to 50 percent accuracy from the floor
and made up for a mere 1-of-7 showing behind the 3-point line by hitting on
13-of-14 at the charity stripe.
The Crusaders picked up the victory and remained in first place in the
conference standings despite turning the ball over 17 times.
