Waco, TX (Sports Network) - In the first meeting between these teams ever in
the Big 12 Conference, the Baylor Bears dominated the West Virginia
Mountaineers, earning an 80-60 win at the Ferrell Center.
Rico Gathers scored 22 points with nine rebounds for Baylor (16-8, 7-4 Big
12), which has won two in a row after a three-game slump. Brady Heslip added
20 points while knocking down 6-of-9 attempts from beyond the arc and Pierre
Jackson contributed 15 points, nine assists, and three steals.
Eron Harris managed 19 points while hitting on 3-of-5 attempts from 3-point
range for the Mountaineers (12-12, 5-6) whose three-game win streak came to an
abrupt end. Deniz Kilici had 13 points and five rebounds.
WVU shot 45.5 percent from the field in the first half and held Baylor to 42.3
percent shooting but still trailed at halftime, 31-27.
The Bears pulled away in the second half, shooting 59.3 percent from the
field to roll to the 20-point victory.
WVU outrebounded Baylor 34-23 but had 18 turnovers and allowed the Bears
to shoot 50.9 percent from the field and 40.9 percent from beyond the arc.
