Waco, TX (Sports Network) - Melvin Ejim tallied 20 points, 12 rebounds and two
blocks as the Iowa State Cyclones went into the Ferrell Center to defeat the
Baylor Bears, 87-82, in a Big 12 Conference showdown.
It was Ejim's 11th double-double of the season for Iowa State (18-8, 8-5 Big
12), which has won back-to-back games. Tyrus McGee paced the squad with 22
points, Korie Lucious netted 16 points, and Georges Niang had 15 points for
the visitors.
For Baylor (16-10, 7-6), Pierre Jackson shot 13-of-19 from the field for 30
points while also dishing out eight assists. Cory Jefferson logged 15 points,
10 rebounds and three blocks for the Bears, who have lost two straight and
five of seven.
Baylor shot a solid 46.7 percent from the field in the first half, but Iowa
State was even better at 53.1 percent as it took a 41-36 lead into
intermission.
The Bears used a 10-2 run early in the second half to bring their deficit to
just one, 47-46, but the Cyclones answered immediately with five straight
points to end the threat. Iowa State never trailed after halftime.
Iowa State's bench outscored Baylor's reserves, 24-12.
