St. Louis, MO (Sports Network) - Carl Hall recorded 16 points and eight
rebounds as the Wichita State Shockers defeated the Illinois State Redbirds,
66-51, in the semifinal round of the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament at
the Scottrade Center.
Malcolm Armstead tallied 15 points and nine boards for the Shockers (26-7),
who will face Creighton in Sunday afternoon's championship game.
For the Redbirds (18-15), Jackie Carmichael scored a game-high 22 points to go
along with five rebounds and three blocks. John Wilkins and Tyler Brown added
nine points a piece.
In the first half, Wichita State made 11-of-29 field goal attempts as it took
a 26-24 advantage at the break. Illinois State was held to a mere 7-of-23 from
the floor, but it kept the game close by outscoring the Shockers at the foul
line, 7-1.
The Shockers shot 44.4 percent from the field after halftime and 77.8 percent
from the foul line as they cruised to the win. The Redbirds regressed in the
second half to just 9-of-32 from the field (.281).
Wichita State won the rebounding battle, 48-31.
