Asheville, NC (Sports Network) - Lucas Troutman tallied a double-double with
14 points and 10 rebounds as the second-seeded Elon Phoenix held off the 10th-
seeded UNC Greensboro Spartans, 68-61, in the Southern Conference Tournament
quarterfinals at the U.S. Cellular Center
Sebastian Koch led the Phoenix (21-10) with 15 points, while Ryley Beaumont
and Jack Isenbarger added 12 and 11 points, respectively. Elon will take on
the winner of the Western Carolina/College of Charleston matchup in Sunday's
semifinal round.
For UNCG (9-22), Trevis Simpson poured in 16 points and Kelvin McNeil netted
10 points off the bench. Derrell Armstrong (11 rebounds) and David Williams
(10 rebounds) were both strong on the glass.
Both teams struggled from the field in the first half, with Elon shooting 36.7
percent and UNCG making just 31.3 percent. The Phoenix went into intermission
with a 31-29 lead.
Elon opened the second half on an 8-0 run to take a 10-point advantage, and
UNCG never got closer than four points of the lead from that point on.
Elon outscored UNCG at the foul line, 18-9.
