Charlotte, NC (Sports Network) - Pierria Henry posted a double-double with 12
points and 11 rebounds to lead the Charlotte 49ers over the Saint Joseph's
Hawks, 52-40, in an Atlantic 10 Conference battle at Halton Arena.
For the 49ers (20-10, 8-8 A-10), Willie Clayton also finished with 12 points
and Chris Braswell chipped in with 10 points.
Langston Galloway led the Hawks (17-12, 8-8) with 13 points.
The teams struggled to find offense, as Saint Joseph's took a 19-18 lead into
halftime. The Hawks shot only 36.4 percent from the field and 2-of-11 from 3-
point range in the half. Charlotte missed all eight of its 3-point tries, as
part of a 29.2 percent shooting performance.
After the break, the 49ers improved somewhat and made 36.4 percent of their
field goal tries. The Hawks were held to just 23.1 percent shooting and missed
all but one of their 11 shots from beyond the 3-point arc. The teams exchanged
leads early in the second half. Charlotte never trailed after going ahead with
17:45 to play. Though the Hawks kept the contest close and were even able to
tie it with under nine minutes to play, the 49ers were able to eventually pull
away and hold on for the victory, holding Saint Joseph's to just two points
over the final 5:34.
Charlotte outscored SJU in the paint, 28-16. The 49ers also finished with a
21-9 scoring advantage from the free-throw line.
