Moscow, ID (Sports Network) - Kyle Barone erupted for a huge double-double
consisting of 27 points and 12 rebounds as the Idaho Vandals took down the
Seattle Redhawks, 76-72, in Western Athletic Conference season finale for both
squads at the Cowan Spectrum.
Also having a strong game for the Vandals (12-17, 7-11 WAC), who are already
locked into the sixth position for the upcoming conference tournament, was
Mike McChristian who turned in 26 points, seven assists and four steals as he
made good on 7-of-11 shots behind the 3-point line. Connor Hill contributed 18
points, converting 6-of-14 beyond the arc as the team won for the third time
in the last four outings.
The Redhawks (8-21, 3-15) were paced by Chad Rasmussen with 16 points,
followed by D'Vonne Pickett with 11 points off the bench as they lost for the
eighth time in the last nine outings.
Shooting an even 50 percent from the field in the first half, Seattle led by
as many as 13 points late in the period before settling for a 32-25 advantage
at the break.
In the second half the Redhawks again shot the ball well at a 56.0 percent
clip, but the hosts were slightly better at 60 percent and that including an
incredible 10-of-16 showing beyond the arc, en route to the four-point win.
The Vandals, who shot only 3-of-13 on the perimeter in the first half, ended
up outscoring Seattle beyond the arc by a massive 39-15 margin.
