Denton, TX (Sports Network) - Karol Gruszecki lead the way with 17 points as
the Texas-Arlington Mavericks downed the North Texas Mean Green, 72-59, in
non-conference action at The Super Pit.
Greg Gainey scored 11 points and Jordan Reves pulled down 13 rebounds for the
Mavericks (2-1).
For the Mean Green (3-3), Alzee Williams finished with 14 points, Tony
Mitchell scored 12 and Roger Franklin chipped in with 11 points and nine
rebounds before fouling out.
Arlington shot well to begin the game, hitting on 50 percent of its field goal
attempts. North Texas was close behind, making 48.1 percent, and the teams
entered halftime knotted at 31-31.
After intermission the Mean Green could not find the basket, shooting just
16 percent from the field in the second half, missing all 13 of their three-
point attempts. The Mavericks held steady, making 42.9 percent of their field
goal attempts and were able to come away with the victory and remain a perfect
3-0 on the road for the season.
Arlington, which outrebounded UNT 43-36, also outscored the Mean Green in the
paint, 36-20.
