Ruston, LA (Sports Network) - Louisiana Tech officially welcomed Skip Holtz as
its new head football coach on Friday.
Holtz arrived from South Florida, where he put together a 16-21 record and one
bowl victory over the last three seasons. He replaces Sonny Dykes, who went
22-15 with one bowl defeat at the helm since 2010 before leaving to take the
job at California.
"Thank you very much. It is certainly an honor to be standing in front of you
here today. Coach Dykes did a great job with this football team in laying a
foundation that I look forward to carrying on," said Holtz. "The image that
this university holds around the country is one that is of great pride in
Ruston and the state of Louisiana. I'm excited to have the opportunity to
build on the academic success demonstrated here. There are plenty of
challenges when you walk into a new conference, and a lot of excitement and a
lot of great challenges ahead."
Holtz, the son of former Minnesota and Notre Dame head coach Lou Holtz, has
compiled an 88-71 record as the head coach with Connecticut (1994-98), East
Carolina (2005-09) and South Florida.
