Honolulu, HI (Sports Network) - Corey Hawkins set a new school record as he
poured in 40 points to push the UC Davis Aggies past the Hawaii Warriors for a
93-82 win in a Big West Conference shootout at the Stan Sheriff Center.
Hawkins also tied the UC Davis (7-10, 3-3 Big West) school-record with eight
makes from 3-point range as the Aggies tied the program record with 16 makes
from distance. J.T. Adenrele scored 19 points and pulled down nine rebounds
while guard Paolo Mancasola had a career-high 11 assists. Hawkins broke the
34-year old record of 39 points previously held by Mike Lien. The victory
was the third in four games for UC Davis.
Christian Standhardinger tallied a team-best 20 points and grabbed eight
boards for Hawaii (10-8, 4-3), which also received a double-double of 16
points and 11 rebounds from Joaquim Vander. Isaac Fotu and Brandon Spearman
scored 10 points apiece as the Warriors lost for the third time in four
outings.
UC Davis drilled 14 attempts from beyond the arc, seven of which came courtesy
of Hawkins, to build a 54-37 lead on the scoreboard as the game progressed
into the intermission. The Aggies used a 15-5 run early in the first half to
take control before the break. Hawaii fell behind after shooting 39.4 percent
from the field in the opening 20 minutes of action.
The Warriors improved to hit 47.1 percent of their field goal tries after
halftime, but the Aggies converted 17-of-19 at the free throw line in the
second stanza to stay in front.
Due to UC Davis's outburst from beyond the arc, it managed to outscore the
hosts, 48-18, from 3-point range.
