Normal, IL (Sports Network) - Jackie Carmichael managed a double-double with
24 points and 14 rebounds for the Illinois State Redbirds who defeated the
Evansville Purple Aces, 67-62, in a Missouri Valley Conference showdown at
Redbird Arena.
Carmichael was 8-of-10 from the field with three blocks for the Redbirds
(12-9, 3-6 MVC) who won their third in a row after a six-game slump to start
conference play. Tyler Brown added a 23-point performance shooting 5-of-13
from the field and gathering 12 points from the free-throw line.
Ned Cox scored 18 points off 5-of-10 shooting from the field for the Purple
Aces (12-9, 5-4), who have lost three of their last four games. Colt Ryan
added 17 points and six rebounds while DJ Balentine contributed 14 points off
the bench.
The Redbirds led 31-22 at the break after holding Evansville to 39.1 percent
shooting from the field in the first half.
In the second half the Purple Aces outscored ISU 40-36 but were unable to
complete the comeback shooting 42.4 percent from the floor.
While both teams had 12 turnovers, ISU scored 17 points off turnovers while
the Purple Aces scored 10.
