It's been a tough few days for Jalen Collins.
Collins was recently suspended 10 games without pay for violating the league's policy on performance enhancing drugs. It's the second straight suspension for Collins, who missed the first four games of the 2016 season for the same reason.
But when Desmond Trufant went down last season, Collins stepped up and helped the secondary. He had two interceptions and 31 tackles last season.
Head coach Dan Quinn and the Falcons said after the suspension was announced they needed time to decide what they wanted to do regarding Collins' future with the team.
"The disappointment for having a second repeat offense is stronger," Quinn said at the time. "Some trust has been broken. We’ll take all the time we need to make the best decision for the team."
Collins can play in the preseason and practice with the team. But he didn't help his case to have a roster spot following his suspension during the team's first preseason game against the Miami Dolphins.
While he nearly nabbed an interception, he got burned on a 99-yard touchdown pass from David Fales to Damore'ea Stringfellow. Collins tried to leap up and swat the ball, but he barely missed and fell to the ground as Stringfellow ran downfield for the touchdown.
Collins was later called for pass interference as he got to Stringfellow before he had a chance to catch the ball. Collins finished with two total tackles.
Collins took to Twitter soon after the game to say he was still in good spirits.

But after his performance, fans were ready for the Falcons to cut him loose, considering he'll miss majority of the season anyways.
