It's official: Eason is starting for the Dawgs

Jacob Eason is making his debut as starting quarterback for the Georgia Bulldogs.

Georgia sports information director Claude Felton made the announcement to beat writers Friday morning.

This comes less than 12 hours after sources told and others that Eason took all t

he reps with the first team, although Kirby Smart last night claimed during his weekly call-in show that a decision has not been made.

“I understand that everybody wants to know and you have a right to know once we know,” Smart told host Scott Howard. “And we don’t know right now. Again, it’s a situation for us where we feel like both young men did a good job.”

Those comments came one day after Smart told XM Sirius Radio that he and offensive coordinator Jim Chaney needed to make a decision soon between Eason and Greyson Lambert, who started last weekend's season opener against North Carolina.

“We’ve got to make some decisions as we go. It’s hard to get two guys enough reps, more or less one. So we’ll have to make a decision,” Smart said Wednesday. “I can’t say right now which way we’ll go on it.”

Eason – the former five-star performer – made his debut with the Bulldogs in last week’s 33-24 win over the Tar Heels, completing 8 of 12 passes for 131 yards and one touchdown, a 17-yard shuttle pass to Isaiah McKenzie. He later completed a 51-yard pass to McKenzie on a key third-down play.
