Just when you thought the rivalry between Florida and LSU couldn't get any hotter, Jim McElwain threw another log on the fire.
Speakting after the Gators had a dramatic win in Baton Rouge, the Florida coach said the Tigers "got what they deserved."
McElwain's comments come after hard feelings resulted between the schools when their game scheduled for Oct. 8 was postponed due to Hurricane Matthew. In the aftermath, LSU insisted the game be moved to Baton Rouge. The next two games in the series will be played in Gainesville.
Then before the game Saturday, there was pregame skirmish that included contact between Florida assistant Torrian Gray and LSU running back Leonard Fournette.
The contest was close throughout. With the Gators ahead 16-10, they held the Tigers from the 1-yard line on the final play, sending them to the SEC title game.
LSU and Florida will meet next season on Oct. 7. Sure that will be a fun one.
