Falcons' Sean Weatherspoon to miss 2014 season after injury

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. -- Atlanta Falcons linebacker Sean Weatherspoon will miss the 2014 season after rupturing his Achilles tendon, the team announced on its website Tuesday.

According to the posting, Weatherspoon suffered the injury during a workout at team headquarters.

Falcons coach Mike Smith said that Weatherspoon will have a procedure done soon, and is expected to make a full recovery.

Weatherspoon was selected in the first round by the Falcons in 2010 after playing college ball at the University of Missouri.

In 2012, he was named a captain on the defense, taking over play calling duties.
