11Alive in Sochi: Elana Meyers talks about Lolo Jones

SOCHI, Russia -- Georgia native Elana Meyers was the most vocal teammate to stand up for Lolo Jones when the bobsled team selection became a controversy.

Many accused of selecting Jones simply for her name value. Meyers went on Facebook and wrote a blistering post defending Jones and the selection committee.

Meyers' explained the post to 11Alive's Matt Pearl.

"Lolo takes a lot of criticism for her athleticism and for her failures in Beijing and London," Meyers said. "Anytime you reach the Olympics, it's not really a failure, though. I really wanted to comment to the fact to how hard she's worked and what she's really done for this team."

Jones said she was appreciate to Meyers and the team for sticking up for her.

Meyers got Jones into bobsledding, first telling her back in 2010 and then reminding her after the 2012 Olympics.

The women's bobsled team competes in Sochi on Tuesday.
