Pease brothers win at NYC marathon after last year's wheel break

Atlanta's Pease brothers ran and won their division in the NYC marathon Sunday.

Atlanta brothers Brent and Kyle Pease found that the second time was the charm. The duo returned to run the New York Marathon, after the wheel on their jogger broke last year. Two other marathoners helped them make it to the finish line.

Yesterday, the Pease brothers not only finished, they ran the marathon in an impressive 3 hours 27 minutes, a sub 8 minute mile.

Brent said they had an absolute blast and that Kyle was popular with the crowd.

They also won their division, which featured 6 duo teams from around the world, including Portugal and Spain.

It’s the most iconic marathon in the country and Brent and Kyle Pease have competed together for years, Brent pushing Kyle in a jogger, the two of them competing in Ironman competitions, marathons and road races around the nation, working for inclusion for disabled athletes.

Last year, the wheel on their jogger broke at mile 8 in the New York City marathon. They struggled alone for several miles, Brent trying desperately to balance his brother on a single wheel. And then a woman named Amy showed up and offered to help steer. And then a man named Kamran did the same. Together, they helped push and steer the jogger the last ten miles, sacrificing their own marathon goals to help the brothers finish.

The brothers founded The Kyle Pease Foundation, which promotes success for young persons with disabilities by providing assistance to meet their individual needs through sports and competition. Programs include scholarship opportunities, purchasing adaptive sports equipment, and participating in educational campaigns around Cerebral Palsy.
