Las Vegas, NV (Sports Network) - Ty Lawson put home the winning layup as time
expired, lifting the Denver Nuggets to a 106-104 victory over the Los Angeles
Clippers in the preseason opener for both teams at Mandalay Bay Events Center.
Trailing, 104-102 with 7.6 seconds to play, Eric Bledsoe eased home a
beautiful reverse layup, tying the game at 104 with 3.1 seconds left.
After a 20-second timeout, Lawson received the in-bounds pass at the top of
the key and blew by the Clippers defense, dropping in the deciding bucket with
his right hand just as the clock showed zeroes
Lawson finished with eight points on 3-of-6 from the field and Kenneth Faried
led the Nuggets with 18 points on 7-of-11 shooting. Jordan Hamilton netted 17
points and Corey Brewer added 16 points off the bench.
Danilo Gallinari finished with 15 points and Andre Iguodala, who came to the
Nuggets in the four-team trade that sent Dwight Howard to the Lakers and
Andrew Bynum to Philadelphia, contributed eight points.
Bledsoe poured in a game-high 25 points to go with eight rebounds and six
assists, while Jamal Crawford donated 19 points off the bench for the
Clippers. Matt Barnes contributed 15 points and DeAndre Jordan added 14 points
and three blocks in the setback.
Blake Griffin had six points and seven rebounds.
Denver shot 53.2 percent overall and persevered despite turning the ball over
26 times.
