Atlanta Falcons linebacker Sean Weatherspoon ruptured his right Achilles tendon in Sunday's win against the Carolina Panthers and will be out the rest of the season, according to ESPN.
Weatherspoon, who missed the entire 2014 season because of the same injury on the opposite foot, posted an image of himself with his team on Instagram and said he believes that he will be able to comeback from the injury.
"I'm certain that I'll be just fine in due time. Thanks for your well wishes and prayers," he posted.
This is what it's about, a Brotherhood! It showed in the way we played! The Standard will be upheld! You can count on that! I'm certain that I'll be just fine in due time. Thanks for your well wishes and prayers! God has picked me up plenty of times when I've been down, he will prevail again! I wanna share this scripture I've been chewing on for about a year now, it still hasn't failed me. I thank God for granting me peace! 1 Cor 2:9 #riseup #theClimb
Weatherspoon, 28, played in 47 snaps against the Panthers, totaling four tackles. He started in the last three games for Atlanta. His start against Oakland in week two was his first start since Dec. 2013 against the Washington Redskins.
After that game, Weatherspoon ruptured his left Achilles tendon in practice and was out the entire 2014 season. He signed with Arizona in 2015. He returned to Atlanta this season, and has been filling in for the injured De'Vondre Campbell. Linebacker Paul Worrilow is also suffering from an injury.
Weatherspoon had 27 total tackles in the first four games, the third most on the defense.
