Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - The U.S. men's national team will visit Russia
for a friendly Nov. 14 in its final game this year, it was announced Thursday.
The United States just advanced to the final round of CONCACAF qualifying for
the 2014 World Cup with a 3-1 win over Guatemala on Tuesday. Russia, which is
ranked 12th in the world, sits atop Group F in UEFA qualifying with four wins
from four matches.
Kickoff at Kuban Stadium in Krasnodar, Russia is set for 10 a.m. (ET).
The United States has never defeated Russia in four previous matches, managing
two draws against two defeats. The countries last played in 2000, when Russia
won, 2-0, at home.
The United States resumes World Cup qualifying in February, when the hexagonal
stage of CONCACAF qualifying begins. The top three finishers from the six-team
group will advance to the World Cup, and fourth place enters a playoff against
the Oceania champion.
