Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (Sports Network) - Rafael Nadal will play his
first tennis since June at an exhibition tournament in Abu Dhabi in late
December.
The current world No. 4 and former top-ranked star hasn't played since
suffering a shocking defeat at the hands of unheralded Czech Lukas Rosol in
the second round at Wimbledon this past summer. The Spanish great has been
sidelined with a partial tear of the patella tendon in his left knee.
The 2012 French Open titlist and 11-time Grand Slam singles champion was
unable to defend his Olympic title in London and also missed the U.S. Open.
The field in Abu Dhabi will also feature former No. 1 and reigning Australian
Open champ Novak Djokovic and reigning U.S. Open and Olympic titlist Andy
Murray. The three-day Mubadala World Tennis Championship will commence
December 27.
