Paris, France (Sports Network) - Former Wimbledon champ Petra Kvitova and
French star Marion Bartoli were second-round winners Wednesday at the Open
GDF Suez tennis event.
The second-seeded Kvitova, who captured this Parisian tournament two years
ago, took down Swiss qualifier Stefanie Voegele by a 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 margin.
Bartoli, the No. 3 seed, beat American Christina McHale 7-5, 6-1. Bartoli lost
to German Angelique Kerber in last year's finale in Paris.
In the only other second-round match, German Mona Barthel upset Australian
Open doubles champion Roberta Vinci by a 4-6, 6-1, 6-3 margin.
Czech Lucie Safarova, the No. 6 seed, highlighted Wednesday's first-round
winners. She defeated Lourdes Dominguez Lino of Spain 2-6, 6-1, 6-1.
In other first-round action, Yanina Wickmayer outlasted Anastasia
Pavlyuchenkova 7-6 (9-7), 4-6, 6-3, Magdalena Rybarikova got past Virginie
Razzano 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 and Kiki Bertens beat Tamira Paszek 6-4, 7-5.
The winner of this $690,000 event will collect $125,000.
