ATLANTA -- Students at the Atlanta Speech School are wrapping up a special, six-week training course for the 35th annual Fun Run on Saturday, May 3.

"The main purpose of the school is to celebrate what our children can accomplish with the help of excellent teachers, encouragement and hard work," said Barbara Propst Muirhead, Communications Director for the Atlanta Speech School.

P.E. Teacher Maggie Deaner runs a six-week training program to help the student's achieve their personal best during the race.

"I am so proud of all the kids," Deaner said. "They have really worked hard. We are ready to run."

"Children learn what they need to do to prepare for the race," Muirhead said. "They incrementally run more each day, and Ms. Maggie puts charts up on the walls so they can track their progress."

As many as 600 runners are signed up for the fun run. It starts at 9 a.m. at the school, which is located at 3160 Northside Parkway in Atlanta.

The fun run is a fundraiser for the Atlanta Speech School.
