FARMINGTON, Minn. - It was a bittersweet goodbye in Farmington on Monday.
Erling Kindem, 89, and Emmett Rychner, 3, gave each other one last hug as neighbors. On Monday, Emmett moved with his family to a house in the country. In a few weeks, Erling will move into a senior apartment with his wife.
Erling left Emmett with one last gift. It was a silver dollar along with a note that read, "May we be friends forever."
The two began an unlikely friendship last year.
