STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. -- One in five Americans will start a diet this month. Few will see the resultsone Stone Mountain woman got.

Laura Ramoslost 110 pounds, one step at a time.

When Ramos started her job five years ago at Stone Mountain Park, she said she had trouble making the rounds.

Every morning on her way to her office, she had to pass hundreds of people running and walking through the park. She said those strangers and a photo of herself at nearly twice her current weightinspired her take the first steps toward weight loss.

She brought a pair of shorts and a T-shirt with her to work, andafter walking through her day, she kept going.

At first, it wasn't very far.

As the steps added up, the weight came off.

A 180-pound person burns about 100 calories every mile. You need to burn 3500 calories to lose a pound. That works out to 70,000 steps. It sounds like a lot, but parking further at the grocery store, taking the stairs instead of the elevator, walking the kids to the bus stop, it adds up.

Ramos changed her diet, started running, and eventually, it added up to 110 pounds in weight loss.

She's the first to say, it was work and fate. If she hadn't been hired for thatjob, been inspired by strangers,seen that picture and struggled to keep up with the walking,she said she's not sure where she'd be today.

In November, she finished her first marathon. Today, she's still walking the park that changed her future.
