ATLANTA -- The Storm Prediction Center has placed the far eastern portion of Metro Atlanta under the "slight risk" category for severe weather Friday afternoon and evening.

With the possibility of strong to severe storms in that area and nearby areas, viewers across north Georgia need to be alert to the possibility of strong storms with large hail, damaging winds and dangerous lightning late in the day Friday.

11Alive Chief Meteorologist Mike Francis says the area with the greatest risk is east of the city of Atlanta and running eastward into South Carolina.
