Skechers shoes has reached a settlement with the Federal Trade Commission to pay up to $40 million to people who bought Shape ups, Tone-ups or Resistance Runners.

The FTC says Skechers claimed that these rocker-bottom shoe products caused consumers to lose weight, burn calories, fight cellulite, and firm, tone or strengthen leg muscles but couldn't substantiate the claim.

Skechers denies any wrongdoing but has agreed to the settlement, which now faces final approval from a federal judge.
