DAWSONVILLE, Ga. -- Parts of the North Georgia mountains are faced with lightning fires and downed trees after severe weather slammed the area Monday morning.
Dawson County officials said 30 trees fell on Highway 53 west near Cowart Road shortly after 5 a.m., blocking that part of the road.
More trees fell in a nearby neighborhood. Officials said two of the trees landed on a house on Voyles Road.
In Pickens County, officials responded to two structure fires and one brush fire between 2:25 a.m. and 3 a.m. Investigators said the fires were most likely caused by lightning.
No injuries were reported in either county.
