FAYETTEVILLE, Ga -- Maurice Smith, 32, of Jonesboro was arrested by Fayetteville Police Wednesday for Peeping Tom and Unlawful Surveillance.
Now, police want female shoppers to know what Smith is accused of doing so they don't become victims.
Police say Smith was taking pictures of women in a dressing room at the Goodwill store on Highway 85 in Fayetteville, and they have the video to prove it. Store surveillance cameras show a man reaching under the dressing room door snapping photos with a cell phone several times.
And it doesn't end there. The man was seen following a female shopper who didn't know he was behind her. In the video, he walks up behind her, and as she bends down to look at an item on a shelf, he reaches down and snaps a picture under her skirt two times.
The man in the video, who police believe is Smith, was holding an infant in his arms.
"The entire time he was taking these pictures, he had his 1-month-old daughter in his arm," said Fayetteville Police Det. Mike Whitlow.
Whitlow also said Smith's wife was in the store at the same time.
"His wife was shopping in another location in the store," he said. "We have no evidence that she had any clue this was going on."
Police said the woman in the dressing room helped them arrest Smith.
"She was able to follow him while she was talking to 911 and our guys got there and apprehended him in the parking lot," Whitlow said.
Police obtained a search warrant for Smith's phone and said they found several other pictures of other women. "It looked like he was adept at what he was doing so he's probably done this many times before," Whitlow said.
Police are trying to determine if any of the other photographs were taken in the Fayetteville store. Anyone who was in the store on Wednesday June 27 is encouraged to contact the Fayetteville Police Department.
Police are warning women to be aware of their surroundings and report any suspicious behavior immediately.
