(WXIA) -- As a result of the rise in graffiti incidences around Lilburn city officials decided to adopt a curfew.

According to Chief Ben Haynes of the Lilburn Police Department, the city council adopted the curfewordinanceon July 9 and it was implemented, immediately.

The ordinance reads:

a) Adult means a person who is at least 18 years of age and authorized by a parent or guardian to have the care and custody of a minor, or is a emcipated minor.

b) Curfew hours mean 11:00 p.m. on any Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday until 6:00 a.m. on the following day, and 11:59 p.m. in any Friday or Saturday until 6:00 a.m. on the following day.

If a minor is caught in violation of this law, first offenders will be escorted home and issued a warning. And repeat offenders will be fined up to $1000 and/or up to 180 days of imprisonment.
