ATLANTA -- An exclusive 11Alive poll has found that a majority of Georgians would support allowing the Georgia Lottery to casino-style gambling operations, including slot machines.
The results polled 1,292 people who are registered to vote in Georgia. Of them, 56% said they would support gambling to expand lottery sales and raise money for the HOPE Scholarship Program, while 34% opposed it and 11% were not sure.
The margin of error was 2.8%.
Of those polled, 59% percent of men and 52% of women were in support of gambling, while 32% of men and 35% of women opposed it. Nine percent of men and 13% of women were not sure.
Forty-eight percent of those who identify as conservative support gambling, as do 59% of moderates and 63% of liberals. About 45% of people who consider themselves pro-life and 65% of those who are pro-choice support it.
