SANDY SPRINGS, Ga.-- Police have arrested one man for a hit and run Tuesday morning in south Sandy Springs.
According to Sandy Springs Police, Patrick Dolan, 24, sideswiped a car, then tried to hijack another vehicle on Highpoint Road. They said Dolan was driving a Chevrolet sedan south on Highpoint, then struck a northbound car on the driver's side door.
Police said Dolan kept driving south, but was being followed by a witness. The witness notified an officer he passed while following Dolan. The officer drove after Dolan, but Dolan lost control of his vehicle, andthen ran into a street sign and stop sign at Highpoint and Highbrook Drives.
Dolan then got out of the car, and attempted to hijack a car from a woman backing down her driveway. Unsuccessful, Dolan got back into his car as the officer approached him on foot from the rear of the vehicle.
Dolan reversed his car toward the officer, who had to jump away to avoid being hit. Dolan continued southbound, but his car overheated after a short distance and stopped at Highpoint and Windsor Parkway.
Police said Dolan was caught by the officer as he triedto run on foot. The officer took him into custody.
Dolan is still in custody, charged with Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer, Fleeing and Attempting to Elude, Obstruction, and traffic charges including Hit and Run, according to Sandy Springs police.
Police said the driver of the car that Dolan hit reported complains of pain, but they do not believe the injury is serious. They said Dolan's reasoning behind the incident is that his car overheated and he was on the way to his father's house.
