ATLANTA -- Atlanta Police said they initially believed a shooting victim found dead just after midnight Thursday was the victim of a hit-and-run.

Atlanta Police Capt. Adam Lee III said a witness saw the victim stumbling along Danforth Road SW and stopped to help, but the man died in the street.

When police investigated the scene, they discovered the 21-year-old man, whose name has not been released, had been shot, Lee said.

Police said they talked to several witnesses in the area who said they heard gunfire before the unidentified man was found.

Lee said investigators have not said what the motive for the shooting may have been, and so far apparently know very little about what happened. He said there were also two armed robberies in the same area around the time the man was shot, and police are investigating the possibility that the three incidents are related.
