ATLANTA -- Valaria Fenderson needs your help.
At the tender age of 11, she is fighting sickle cell anemia and is in desperate need of a bone marrow transplant.
The 11Alive Help Desk has set a single goal at Spelman College Friday:find a bone marrow match for Valaria.
The team has partnered with Be A Match, a global organization devoted to finding bone marrow donors.
The 11Alive Help Desk is reaching out to the community and the student bodies at Spelman, Clark Atlanta and Morehouse to find a match for Valaria, who continues to valiantly battle against sickle cell anemia.
For her, a bone marrow transplant is an immediate need.
Earlier this week we went to the Spelman campus to meet with students as they paused between classes, explaining just how simple the test was, a quick swab with a Q-tip inside the cheek.
Everyone we spoke to said they would be there Friday to take part.
The Valaria Bone Marrow Drive kicked off at the Lower Manley Student Center on the Spelman Campus at 10 a.m. and runs through 7:30 p.m.
If you are coming from off-campus, there is ample parking on the Spelman parking deck.
The immediate hope for Valaria is to find a match, quickly.
Be sure to join the 11Alive Help Desk Team on Friday and get tested.
