ATLANTA -- Atlanta's zoo is giving visitors the chance to guess how much its biggest snake weighs before her annual weigh-in.
The female reticulated python is the largest resident of Zoo Atlanta's World of Reptiles. Zoo staff members weigh and measure her once a year. But Tuesday marks the first time in years that zoo guests have been invited to watch.
Reticulated pythons are native to Southeast Asia and are the world's longest snake species. They are non-venomous constrictors. They ambush their prey, including mammals as big as pigs.
The measurements will be taken at 2:30 p.m. by members of the zoo's herpetology department.
