ATLANTA, Ga. - - Georgia Tech's new basketball facility will be open to the public on football game days starting this Saturday. Fans can get a look at the renovated building starting three hours before kickoff, which this week is 3:09 PM, and the building will close one hour before kickoff.
"This is primarily a basketball facility" says Director of Athletics Dan Radakovich. For that reason there the suites many have become accustomed to seeing in new arenas were not put in this plan. Without other events such as concerts it was felt the fan base would be better served with a club level area open to more people than suites would accomodate, and at a more reasonable price.
The first event in the new building will be the November 9 men's game against Tulane University. The name of the court remains Cremins Court in honor of Bobby Cremins who coached the Tech men from 1981-2000. The roof and the original 32 support beams are the only parts remaining from Alexander Memorial Coliseum, home of the basketball teams for 55 years.
