DAUFUSKIE ISLAND, S.C.-- Jimmy Beck of the Kennesaw State men's golf team finished tied for second place at the Rees Jones Intercollegiate, as the sophomore led the Owls to an eighth place finish, team total of 921, +57, at the par-72, 7380-yard Haig Point Golf Club.

Beck finished with a birdie on the final hole Tuesday to jump into a tie for second place. Posting a 54-hole score of three-over-par, 219, Beck turned in his career best finish. The reigning Atlantic Sun Golfer of the Week, Beck has turned in back-to-back top-five performances to open his 2012-13 campaign.

"I had a great finish to this tournament and I am very pleased with my game right now," Beck said. "The course set up to my strength and I was able to capitalize on that."

The four remaining players for the Black and Gold failed to break 80 on Tuesday as Ben Greene (230), finished tied for 28th, Jonathan Klotz (233) tied for 36th, while Carlos Segura Oliva and Peder Lunde Hermanson tied for 49th, each shooting a 242 total.

"Other than Jimmy, we struggled from tee to green," said Head Coach Jay Moseley. "Jimmy's performance was outstanding, but as a team, we have to improve in all aspects of our game. It is still early in the year so we have plenty of time to get better."

Niklas Lindstrom of Liberty took medalist honors with a three-under-par total of 213, as Liberty had the top four individual scorers, helping the Flames cruise to a 24-stroke victory over East Carolina.

Liberty's team score of 6-over-par, 870 was the lowest in the tournament's short history. East Carolina rallied to overtake host South Carolina for second place with a total of 894. The Gamecocks finished third with an 896, while Charlotte finished fourth at 906, and Winthrop's 909 rounded out the top five.

The Owls will return to action on Monday, Oct. 15, when the team competes in the Autotrader.com Classic at the Berkeley Hills Country Club in Duluth, Ga.
