ATHENS, Ga. -- Former University of Georgia cornerback and current member of the Chicago Bears Tim Jennings has been named the NFC Defensive Player of the Month, according to an announcement Thursday by the NFL.
Jennings has already set a new career-high this season with a league-leading four interceptions to go along with 18 tackles and six pass break-ups. He has helped Chicago to a 3-1 record, and the Bears' defense is ranked No. 1 in the NFL in the Aikman Ratings, which include seven different key statistical categories.
A native of Orangeburg, S.C., Jennings is in his seventh year in the NFL and third with the Bears. Following his All-SEC senior season at UGA in 2005, he was drafted by Indianapolis in 2006 and helped the Colts to the Super Bowl in his rookie season.
Jennings is the second former Bulldog in as many weeks to be honored by the NFL. Chris Clemons was named the NFC Defensive Player of the Week following his four-sack performance against Green Bay on Sept. 24.
