(WXIA) -- Freshman NBC comedy Animal Practice was canceled Thursday afternoon. The network said that returning comedy Whitney would begin airing in its place on Nov. 14.
Animal Practice starred Justin Kirk and aired initially after the Olympic closing ceremony in August before debuting in its regular time slot in early September.

New episodes will air through Nov. 7.
Other early casualties of this television season include CBS' Made in Jersey, which was canned after two episodes were aired; and NBC's planned mid-season replacement Next Caller, which was canceled last week after four episodes had been filmed.
