BRASELTON, Ga. -- An overnight standoff in Gwinnett County ended with the suspect dying of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The incident began as an aggravated assault at around 11 p.m. Thursday in Braselton. Police said the suspect, whose name has not been released, assaulted someone and fired shots, but no one was hit.
After the assault, the suspect barricaded himself in a house on Thompson Mill Road in Buford, according to investigators.
Negotiating teams from Braselton and Gwinnett County Police tried to speak to the suspect. Police sent a robot into the house at around 5 a.m. Friday; the robot discovered that the suspect had shot himself to death, police said.
Investigators have closed Thompson Mill Road between South and North Puckett roads as they work to gather more information.
