Honolulu, HI (Sports Network) - Vander Joaquim scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, leading Hawaii to a 73-60 victory over Houston Baptist to claim the Rainbow Classic.
Christian Standhardinger contributed 14 points with 11 rebounds for the Rainbow Warriors (3-0), who have won each of their three games this season by double-digits. Brandon Spearman chipped in 15 points in the victory.
Art Bernardi scored 22 points for Houston Baptist (2-1), which had beaten Arkansas-Pine Bluff and Maryland-Eastern Shore to start the campaign.
Hawaii never trailed, breaking the game open early with a 10-0 run for a 16-6 lead. Spearman scored six during the burst, capping it with a 3-pointer.
The Rainbow Warriors led by as many as 18 at 34-16 before taking a 38-23 cushion to the break. Houston Baptist got only as close as 11 in the final minute of the contest.
