Detroit. MI (Sports Network) - Jason Calliste scored 24 points to lead the Detroit Titans over the Toledo Rockets, 79-73, in non-conference play at Calihan Hall.
Calliste was 9-of-17 from the field and made five three-pointers as he helped Detroit (3-4) snap a three-game slide. Juwan Howard Jr. added 16 points and six rebounds, while Doug Anderson recorded 10 points and five boards. Ray McCallum filled his stat line with 10 assists, eight rebounds, seven points, two blocks and two steals. McCallum did struggle shooting the ball however, as he made only 3-of-11 from the field and missed on all four three-point attempts.
Julius Brown led Toledo (2-6) in scoring with 20 points to go with his five rebounds and five assists. Rian Pearson accounted for 19 points and eight rebounds, while Matt Smith tallied 15 points, hitting all three of his shots beyond the arc.
Detroit led 38-36 at halftime after making eight three-pointers through the first 20 minutes of action.
The Titans led by as many as 15 points with under four minutes remaining, but Toledo ended the game on a 14-5 in order to close the gap before suffering the six-point road loss.
Detroit's bench supplied 20 points compared to just nine from Toledo reserves as the visitors bowed for the second time in as many games.
