Des Moines, Iowa (Sports Network) - Roy Devyn Marble scored 30 points to lead the Iowa Hawkeyes to a 80-73 victory over their in-state foes the Northern Iowa Panthers in part of the Hy-Vee Big Four Classic.
Marble was 6-of-14 from the field, making four three-point attempts, but tallied 14 points from the free-throw line for the Hawkeyes (9-2), who have now won four in a row. Mike Gesell added 23 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the field including 4-of-6 from beyond the arc. Eric May came off the bench to dish out a game-high total of seven assists.
Deon Mitchell was 9-of-14 from the field, scoring 23 points as the Panthers (6-4) saw their three-game winning steak come to an end. Seth Tuttle scored 18 points and grabbed nine rebounds while Anthony James added 15 points.
Iowa led 40-32 at halftime after shooting 48.1 percent from the field and making good on 9-of-16 three-point attempts.
The second half saw UNI outscore the Hawkeyes 41-40, as they improved their shooting by nearly 20 percent from the first half, but it was not enough to overcome their early deficit.
Iowa's bench supplied a strong boost, tallying 19 points while the Panthers bench contributed just five points total.
