Las Vegas, NV (Sports Network) - Stephon Carter paced four teammates in double figures with 18 points as the Cal State-Bakersfield Roadrunners held off the Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils, 69-64, in the final round of the Las Vegas Classic at Orleans Arena.
Tyrone White scored 15 points for Bakersfield (5-9), while Brandon Barnes added 13 points and Javante Maynor chipped in 10 points.
For MVSU (0-9), Davon Usher scored 26 points on 5-of-10 from the field and 15- of-19 from the foul line. Darryl Marshall netted 18 points from off the bench.
MVSU shot a lofty 61.1 percent from the floor in the first half as it took a 37-31 lead into intermission. Bakersfield made just 37.9 percent of its field goal attempts in the opening 20 minutes, but it kept the game close by shooting 7-of-14 from 3-point range.
Following an Adam Young trey with 12:42 left in the game, the Roadrunners took a 48-45 lead. The Devils kept the contest close throughout, and they were down just two, 65-63, with 45 seconds to play, but Bakersfield drained four free throws down the stretch to seal the victory.
MVSU turned the ball over a game-high 19 times and lost the rebounding battle by a 37-26 margin.
