Las Vegas, NV (Sports Network) - Rayshawn Goins tallied 15 points to lead the James Madison Dukes as they held off the San Diego Toreros for a 62-59 decision in the final game of the Vegas Holiday Hoops Classic at MGM Grand Garden Arena.
Devon Moore added 13 points for JMU (6-6) and A.J. Davis contributed 11 points and four steals. The win was the third in a row for the Dukes.
San Diego (6-8) was led by Johnny Dee, who scored 18 points on 8-of-14 shooting from the field. Chris Manresa notched a double-double with 10 points and 13 boards while Ken Rancifer chipped in 11 points in the third straight loss for the Toreros.
San Diego opened up the game with a 12-2 run to take control in the early stages, but the Dukes came storming back and carried a 33-30 advantage into the intermission. The Toreros trailed at halftime despite outscoring their opponent in the paint, 18-8, in the opening 20 minutes.
James Madison held the lead for most of the second period, but it faced a 58-55 deficit with 3:21 left in regulation. Moore knocked down a jumper to reduce the Toreros' lead to one point before Goins knocked down a pair of free throws to put the Dukes back in front for good. Davis made it a three-point game with a dunk with four seconds remaining and Cameron Miles missed a three- point attempt at the buzzer that would have forced overtime. JMU converted 12- of-17 attempts at the charity stripe in the second half to hang on for the victory.
The Toreros lost despite holding a 33-26 edge in the rebounding battle.
