Wichita, KS (Sports Network) - Cleanthony Early scored 16 points as the Wichita State Shockers took down the Northern Iowa Panthers, 66-41, in each team's Missouri Valley Conference opener at Charles Koch Arena.
Malcolm Armstead added 14 points and Demetric Williams and Tekele Cotton each chipped in 12 points for Wichita State (12-1, 1-0 MVC) which has won three straight.
Jake Koch was the lead scorer for Northern Iowa (7-6, 0-1) with just seven points. The Panthers have lost three of their last four.
Wichita State ran out to a 30-18 lead at halftime by connecting on 48.0 percent of its shots from the floor while limiting Northern Iowa to 28.0 percent shooting.
Despite cooling off to 44.0 percent shooting in the second half the Shockers extended their lead by outscoring the Panthers from 3-point range (9-6) and the free throw line (11-5) in the last 20 minutes.
Wichita State had a massive 40-22 edge in rebounds.
